Read full description of the books:
Witty, ironic and subtly lethal, this collection of fifty masterful short stories by John Collier testifies to his assured place in the pantheon of great science fiction writers. Taking the almost familiar elements of ghosts and demons, young love and strange obsessions, Collier mixes them like a sorcerer and conjures up a world unlike any that we have entered before.
In the classic "Evening Primrose," we discover a strange society which lives in the city's major department stores; in "Thus I Refute Beelzy," we meet an insensitive father who confronts his small son's imaginary playmate; we learn in "the Chaser" about the "side effects" of a love potion, and in "Green Thoughts," about the transforming power of a hothouse orchid.
Each tale is stamped by the unique imagination--sometimes surreal, often unsettling, and always driven by the outrageously unexpected.1971
